Pack,

This is my first attempt at posting some photographs for our activities throughout the year.  I will try to post 2 or 3 of the best photos and then have a link to our Picasa Gallery so that everyone can view all the photos.

As Co-Den Leader of the Tigers, I will be the first to admit that these photos might favor the Tigers.  However, I encourage everyone to email me their photos from ALL Den and Pack events and I will do my best to get them on the website!

Hello!

The countdown has begun with one week remaining until our Pinewood Derby! Be sure not to miss this fun event for the whole family… it showcases the fun of Scouting! For those of you who wait until the last minute, now is the time to start working on your Pinewood Derby cars! Also, not sure if you noticed, our Pack was mentioned in the West Side Leader Thursday 1/19 http://www.akron.com/akron-ohio-entertainment-news.asp?aID=15009.

Here is a little more detail on the evening.

1. Plan to arrive at Bethel Lutheran (3852 Everett Rd) between 6pm and 6:30 so that all cars can be checked in. Racing will begin at 7pm. Wear your uniform.
2. Bring a dessert to share. We won’t be having dinner, but we will have a dessert table and drinks.
3. We will have a Chinese raffle. We are also taking donations if you have an item to donate, please let Dennis Gentner know prior at dgentner@adcom1.com.
4. Siblings and Akelas can have fun too as they have their own race after the den’s race and before the finals.
5. Only dry lubricants on your wheels, no liquids. Wheel spacing must stay the same and the weight must be under 5 oz. Any questions, just ask John Evans, our Pinewood Derby Coordinator, at john@evansclan.org.
6. Bring the whole family because it is a whole bunch of fun!

If you would like to have your car weighed, you can visit the post office. Again, it’s better if your car is slightly under the weight…you can always add a penny or two during the race.

The Cub Scout Lock-In seemed to go well. If you’d like to share any comments so that we can make it better next year, please let us know at cubmaster@pack3387.org.

Scout Sunday is coming up the weekend of February 4-5th. On Sunday February 5th, we encourage Scouts from our Pack 3387, regardless of their religious affiliations, to attend the 10am service at the Richfield UCC to show support for our Chartered Organization. Immediately following the service, our Cub Scout Pack is providing coffee, pastries, desserts, etc. to everyone present. If you are able to bring a dessert or pastry to share for the event, it would be appreciated. If your Scout is attending this service, or possibly another service at your place of worship, please have them wear their full uniform. If they have previously received a religious emblem, they can wear that emblem which is only worn at special events such as Blue & Gold and Scout Sunday.

And another reminder about the upcoming Great Trail Council Ski Scouting Days being held on February Feb. 18-20. The last day to pick up Scout ID Tags at the Great Trail Scout Shop is February 3rd.

See you all on Friday night January 27th!

Pack 3387

Hello all,

We hope everyone had a great time at our December Pack Meeting at the Natatorium.

In just a few weeks, we have our Cub Scout Lock-in on Friday January 6th & Saturday January 7th! We’ll spend the night at Hillcrest with our friends from Pack 3385. We will also be working on a few belt loops. Just like last year, the cost will be $10 per Cub Scout (no additional cost for Akelas) to cover Hillcrest fees and food. On Friday, there will be pizza for dinner, snack and on Saturday, a continental breakfast provided.

If possible, it would be helpful if you could RSVP right now if you are coming or not (reply to cubmaster@pack3387.org). It will help us plan for the food and for our “patrols/teams”. Also if attending the Lock-in, if we don’t have it already, make sure we have your current (12 months or less) medical form on file for the scout and Akela (bringing the completed form to the Lock-in)… If you filled out a new medical form recently or at the pack campout, you don’t have to fill one out for the lock in. Cub Scouts can wear their yellow “Run With The Pack” T-Shirts.

The Pinewood Derby is also a month away. Please plan to attend this fun event! Let us know or check with your Den Leader if you have not received your pinewood derby yet to make arrangements to pick it up.

Thanks and enjoy the holidays!

Pack 3387

Hello!

Hope you are enjoying the holidays and had a great Thanksgiving.

This Saturday December 10th, we have our December Pack meeting at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium [2345 4th Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, (330) 971-8080]. It is another fun event for the whole family! We have the Natatorium reserved just for our group along with Pack 3385 between 7pm and 9pm. There is a large pool area that includes a water slide, kids area, diving boards. There is a hot tub area for adults. We also have the lap pool available between 8-9pm. It’s a great opportunity for the boys if they would like to earn their swimming belt loop, or the Webelos to work on their aquanaut activity pin. This year, there is no cover charge and there will not be food provided so grab a bite to eat before you come. A note to confirm your calendar having this correct date of Dec. 10th (vs. the tentative Dec. 9th listed on an earlier calendar). Just a reminder for those 16 years or older that the facility will ask for a driver’s license/photo ID to access the Natatorium (so please don’t forget to bring that along so you can get in).

Also, please mark your calendars for Friday January 6th at 6pm to Saturday January7th to 9am for our Cub Scout Lock-in at Hillcrest Elementary. We will join Pack 3385 for a weekend full of activities including “campfire”, movie and spending the night with your Cub Scout friends in the Hillcrest gym. More details to come…

At our last November Pack meeting, we distributed Pinewood Derby cars to the boys and went over details about the Pinewood Derby that will be held on Friday January 27th. Details included tips on building them and some of the rules (details are posted below on our website). If you were not at the Pack meeting, your Den leader will have your Pinewood Derby car if you have not received it yet. Also if Akelas and siblings are interested in racing in the Pinewood Derby, we will have some additional Pinewood Derby cars available to purchase (Please email me at dgentner@adcom1.com if you would like to purchase an additional car). This fun event is another big highlight of the year!

Thanks.

2012 Pinewood Derby Rules

It is that time of year again to start gearing up for the Pinewood Derby! We wanted to send out a few instructions pertaining to the Pinewood Derby and the rules that will apply to this year’s race. We know that there are rules included in each Pinewood Derby box, but those rules do not contain a lot of details. We would like to keep this event fun for the boys and at the same time operating within the spirit of the Pinewood Derby rules. The Pinewood Derby is really a lot of fun and is also a great project for the Cub Scout and Akelas/parents.

As you are going through your preparations, please keep the following rules in mind for the event:
ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE
The following are the inspection points:
1. The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
3. The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
4. The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
5. The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body between the car and track.
6. The wood provided in the kit must be used.
7. Only official BSA wheels can be used on your car. The wheels may be modified, but full sidewall must be visible.
8. The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated.
9. Only dry lubricant is permitted
10. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
11. The car cannot ride on any type of springs.
12. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
Have fun making those derby cars! We can’t wait to see them all at the race!

November Events

November 9, 2011

Hello everyone.

With our Fall campout behind us, we hope that everyone that attended had a good time. The weather was certainly great! And we would like to send out our “Thank you’ s” to everyone who helped out as well, whether chaperoning, preparing a meal, providing snacks and other treats, cleaning up, etc. It is very much appreciated! And if you have a moment, we welcome any feedback that you may have on the campout so that we can continue to improve and offer a good Scouting program to our boys (you can email those back or turn in at our next Pack meeting if you’d like). We always welcome feedback on any activity throughout the year as well.

Popcorn pickup. This Saturday November 12th, we have our Popcorn pick-up at the Richfield UCC from 10am-12pm for the Popcorn “Take-Orders”. Let Don Kostar or I know if you have popcorn to pick up and that time will not work for you and we can make other arrangements. Please turn in any remaining popcorn $’s owed to Tom Orcutt no later than our Nov.18th Pack meeting. If your son had earned and selected a prize for his popcorn sales, those will likely arrive in early December.

November Pack Meeting. Our next Pack meeting is on Friday November 18th (7pm-8pm) at the Richfield UCC. There will be a drawing held with tickets for each $100 sold in popcorn sales for a couple prizes including a “Zyclone”. Also, our final three top sellers will get to choose a “Cub Scout Leader” of choice to receive a personally delivered “Pie-In-The-Face” at this meeting! At this meeting we will also be handing out our Pinewood derby cars in preparation for our Pack Pinewood derby scheduled on January 27th.

Thanks.

Pack 3387

Hello all.

We wanted to thank everyone again for all their fundraising efforts with our annual Popcorn fundraiser. Our deadline for the popcorn order forms is coming up in a few days. If you have not turned in your popcorn forms, there are a couple ways to get that to us in time.

For the order forms, you can scan and email them to Tom Orcutt, our Pack treasurer, at tommyorcutt@yahoo.com, or to me (at dgentner@adcom1.com).
You can fax them to Tom at 888-890-5091. We will also be available at Saturday’s Goodwill collection from 9am-12pm for any last minute forms or payments.

If mailing forms, please be sure we have received that information no later than this Saturday to place the order. There is a little more time for the funds that are due to the district which is by 11/12. For mailing checks, please send to:

Tom Orcutt
2096 N. Revere Road
Akron, OH 44333
(330)327-1051 (cell)

If you have any donations for Goodwill or if the boys would like to help load the trailer, we hope to see you on Saturday October 29th, for our Goodwill Good Turn Day at the Richfield UCC from 9am-12pm. Just FYI, there are a few items that Goodwill do not accept such as baby car seats, bouncy chairs, and TV’s that are not cable ready.

If you have not rsvp’d for our Fall Campout, please let us know if you are coming by this Saturday 10/29 (email cubmaster@pack3387.org). This way, we will then be able to plan for food, assign patrols and cabin/sleeping arrangements. For reference, I’ve copied below the suggested packing list that was previously sent.

A couple calendar updates include our November Pack meeting which is being held on Friday November 18th (7-8pm at the Richfield UCC). Also at this Pack meeting we will have the drawings for a couple popcorn prizes along with the “Pie-In-The-Face” event…

Also note a change in date for the December Pack meeting at the Cuyahoga Fall Natatorium which is now scheduled on “Saturday” December 10, 2011 from 7-9pm. The website http://pack3387.org reflects all current dates.

Thanks.
