Cub Scout Day Camp 2013

May 25, 2013

Cub Scout Day Camp at Camp Butler is Monday July 22nd through Wednesday July 24th. A $30 check (Payable to Pack 3387) and the registration form (including medical form A&B – if out of date) is due to Matt C. as soon as possible. We need all forms by Thursday the 30th so that they can be turned in on Friday the 31st.

Due to the late notice, please email the registration forms to cubmaster@pack3387.org by May 30th. We will put together an updated medical form list, but most boys will need a new form (these forms are good for one year).

If you would like to drop off completed forms and checks. Here are your options for the upcoming week:
1. Please give the forms to your den leader at the Memorial Day Parade on Monday
2. Matt C. will be a Richfield Woods On Wednesday the 29th from 5:15 – 7:15. He will either be coaching at the soccer academy or assisting at the coach pitch game.
3. Drop them off at Matt C.’s house

The Day Camp is a great time for the boys. Here are some key items:
1. We need volunteers to chaperone during the camp (with our boys)
a. One, two or three days – Any help is needed (Mon-Wed)
b. Please denote this on the attached registration form
c. Volunteers need updated medical forms as well
2. The boys will be shooting bb guns, archery, swimming and much, much, more.
3. Siblings are welcome and must be aged 6-10
4. When filling out the registration:
a. The Pack is picking up half of the price of the camp
b. The grade level that is selected for the scout is for the fall
i. Tigers will sign up as Wolves
ii. Wolves will sign up as Bears
c. Any incoming Tigers (soon to be first graders) must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times.

Don’t hesitate to send any of the leaders an email if you have questions about Day Camp.

Friday, June 21st is our second annual Family and Friends Picnic and Kickball Extravaganza. This will run from 6 – 9 pm at the Richfield Woods Pavilion. We want all scouts to bring their families and friends. This event has two purposes: 1. To thank all of the scouting families for a great year and 2. To introduce non-scouting families to Cub Scouts and Pack 3387. We encourage each scout to invite a friend/classmate and his family. This would be a great no pressure situation for them to meet some of the scouts, akelas and leaders. In addition, please reach out to any friends and neighbors that have a current kindergartner. These boys will be Tigers in the fall and this is a fun way to introduce them to Cub Scouts.

Memorial Day Parade

May 19, 2013

We will be marching in the Richfield Memorial Day Parade on May 27th. Meet at 9:30am Monday morning at the Richfield Historical Society that is directly across from the Richfield Post Office. We suggest bringing a water bottle that can be carried and wear your full “class A” uniform, including neckerchief and hat. We’ll be done around 11a.m. or so. For those of you that haven’t marched before, we go from the traffic light at 303/Broadview to the West Richfield cemetery. There is also parking at the Richfield library or some places along the parade route. After the ceremony please let a leader know if you son is leaving from the cemetery. Otherwise we will march back to where we started.

Just like the flag placing, we hope to have a great turnout!!!!

Cemetery Flag Placement

May 19, 2013

I just wanted to thank everyone who was able to come and place the flags on the Veterans Graves.

It was a great turnout and I am, as always, so proud of our scouts.  They were reverent and respectful.

Wes Weir will be sending out an email regarding the Memorial Day Parade.  So, put it on your calendar.

Cemetery Flags

May 6, 2013

Our Pack will place American Flags at the gravesites of Veterans in advance of Memorial Day.

When: 8:30AM Saturday May 18th
Where: Fairview Cemetery (to start) 3990 Brecksville Road
Attire: Please wear the formal Class A uniform

We will start at 8:30 with a discussion of what Memorial Day is, what these Veterans did and why we are doing this. After completing the flags at Fairview Cemetery, we will move to West Richfield Cemetery, 4219 Broadview Rd.

Some people have Soccer starting at 10, for those Cub Scouts, please feel free to dress them in their soccer shorts, shinguards and socks in order to make your morning a little less stressful. I plan on putting the Class A uniform over Ryan’s jersey.

Pack Spring Campout

April 9, 2013

We will have our Pack 3387 Spring Campout this weekend at Camp Manatoc. Please arrive at 1PM on Saturday April 13th… eat lunch before arriving, or bring a sack lunch with you. The Pack will purchase food for dinner, late night snack, and cold breakfast. There will be a charge of $10 per Scout to defray the cost of the food and cabin rental. Please RSVP to your Den Leader so that we can get approximate headcount for food purchases.

We have reserved the Legion Lodge cabin, which sleeps 20. We expect more people than that, so we encourage you to bring a tent as well if you have one (I know several from the Tiger and Wolf dens are planning to stay in tents outside the cabin). We expect sunshine on Saturday, but please be prepared for cold weather camping, because we expect it to get into the low 30 degrees Saturday night. You can use this checklist as a guide:

Pack Campfire: We we have a Pack Campfire from 7-9PM on Saturday night. Even if you do not plan to participate in the campout, we encourage you to come out to the Legion Lodge on Saturday night for the the campfire, as this will serve as our April Pack meeting.

We plan to wrap up at 11AM on Sunday. We will need everyone’s help to clean the cabin and camp sites before departure inspection.

Kendall Cliffs March 15th

March 10, 2013

Just a reminder that we will be indoor rock climbing at Kendall Cliffs Friday March 15 from 5-7pm (if you come at 6 you will still be able to enjoy climbing)

This year, due to your generosity and good pack planning, there will be no charge for scouts to climb! Siblings will be $10

Please RSVP as soon as possible.

If you have time, please tune into the new TV series tonight called “Are You Tougher Than A Boy Scout”. The series premier is tonight at 8PM on the National Geographic Channel.

While this show has the potential to exploit the Boy Scout name, it also has the potential to promote and improve the image of the BSA community. I’m optimistic about the show’s impact, and looking forward to watching it tonight.

You can read more about it and watch the TV trailers at the following URL:

This is a reminder that our Pack 3387 Blue & Gold Banquet is this Friday, Feb. 22nd at 6:30PM.  We will be in the basement of St. Victor Church in Richfield.  Family members are all invited.

This is our opportunity to honor all of the hard work the Scouts have put in so far this school year earning their achievements, and to say goodbye to the Webelos II Scouts crossing over to Boy Scouts.

Please RSVP with family headcount to cubmaster@pack3387.org

Greetings All!

Well, believe it or not December is here and it looks like it will be cold on Saturday.   So how about we all meet for our Pack meeting on Saturday, December 8 to go swimming!

That’s right, it is time for the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium.  It is located at 2345 4th Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 (330-971-8080).  We will be there from 7-9PM.  Arrive 15 minutes before and Adults have your driver’s license.

Bring your swim suits and a towel and have some fun.  This is a family event.  Siblings are welcome and there is no charge.

It is also a great opportunity to recruit.  So if you know a family with a boy who could be in scouts, please invite them.

If you have any questions, let me know.

In Scouting,

MattD
